Hi all,
Well I've been to the independent living aids website, and today I called them and ordered a catalogue. actually, I ordered one in 2 formats, one in large print for my mom, and one on cassette. they seem to have a variety of things on just about every category. It would take a long time just going through one category. The catalogue will take about 2 or 3 weeks getting here according to the customer service person I spoke to. They have their phone number listed on every page, so it's real easy to find, and it isn't too hard to remember, of course, having a 1800 number helps too.

yeah, that site is really good. i ordered a few presents for my boyfriend from there and it didn't take them that long to get here.
The ILA catalog is probably the most comprehensive source for all kinds of aids and devices for the visually impaired as well as for people with other disabilities. They recently took over Ann Morris Enterprises and all of Ann''s stock so now have the houseware items and other things that her catalog was known for. I like browsing through their web site rather than ordering a catalog.
Are these ILA's as expensive there as they are here in Britain we pay way over the odds for even the most basic aids
the excuse "there arent enough blind/vi to justify lowering our prices!".
It depends on what you order. Things like talking watches are very reasonably priced. But ILA and other such catalogs have a range of products from the inexpensive to the very expensive.
Yes, I think the smaller items are less. I've seen some items as low as $19.00. I Think that Franklinlanguage master word dictionary is probably expensive. I love looking at all the stuff on their website, but my mom and I never order anything online. I looked at their sight map link and there, they have all the things listed together.
You know, I use to not even not bother clicking on a link that said sight map, because I always thought it pointed to a map, and jaws can't read a map, so I thought there would be a lot of graphics image links and stuff.
I don't know why it's going to take the catalogue so long to get here though.

as for me, I need to order a braille watch but discovered recently that the Florida division of blind services orders it. So, bye bye, independentliving.com and all these e-mails. I like aph as well, but this is out of topic he he
No problem, well, most of the things in that catalog are really high priced, and I didn't see anything I needed, or that looked really interesting.

What is the Independent Living Aids URL? Is it the www.independentliving.com? Thanks.
Caitlin
yes it sure is. The website is better organized than the cassette catalog

I'll check out the site. And maybe possibly the cassette catalog, just for the heck of it. Is it four-track? It probably is. If it is, I'll have to dig out my four-track recorder, I have no clue where it is, haven't used it for ages and ages ...

Sounds cool!.
I've ordered some things from Independent Living aids before. I'd like to try online shopping from that site. Now, to persuade my parents that it's safe is going to be a bit difficult.
its funny how us kids(ok i'm grown up), are supposed to be trying new things blah blah blah, and our parents seem paranoid of the shopping online thing.
I quite like the indipendent living website, but I don't know if they send items to outside the united States, or just inside.
There should be something on the web site about international shipping.
I've used them to order my jaws upgrades and they're fine ordering from. in fact going to see what they have now for new products.

I haven't bought anything from there, but one of my friends has and some of the things he ordered took about a month to get here. I think that might have been because we're in England, but still ... it shouldn't take that long.
